Johannesburg, 8 August 2025: Mizz Dee makes a powerful return to the music scene with her latest single, “Ngiyathokoza”, a deeply personal and heartfelt tribute to the often-overlooked form of love: the unconditional support and nurturing of parents and caregivers.
After years of crafting music centered around romantic love, Mizz Dee is switching gears. In this new chapter of her artistry, she turns inward to explore themes of gratitude, family, and the enduring impact of a loving upbringing.
“‘Ngiyathokoza’ is about me being grateful and thankful to my parents for raising me with love and a warm home,” says Mizz Dee. “But it’s not just for me – it’s for everyone. Whether you were raised by your biological parents, a step-parent, a guardian, or even an elder sibling – this song is a reminder to pause and show gratitude for those who shaped us.”
Coming from a close-knit nuclear family, with both her parents still together after over 39 years, Mizz Dee reflects on the privilege of that stability. Seeing many of her peers raised in single-parent or blended households, she was moved to honour the caregivers who pour love into children, often against all odds.
“I really feel like God has blessed me in more ways than one by having both my parents still present in my life,” she adds. “I’m painfully aware that many people don’t have that – absent fathers, missing mothers – it leaves deep scars. This song is both a celebration and a recognition of that reality.”
“Ngiyathokoza” is more than a comeback – it’s a message of healing and appreciation for the unsung heroes of our lives. With her signature soulful delivery and introspective lyrics, Mizz Dee invites listeners to reflect on their own journeys and give thanks to those who loved them into becoming.
